6 THINGS TO CONSIDER RIGHT NOW IF YOU ARE WEDDING PLANNING

By Valley Loves

No one would have expected that 12 months ago you would have to consider a global pandemic in the midst of your wedding planning. It’s a very surreal thing.

We have all had to take a step back and realise what’s important right now, and we may go into wedding planning with a different perspective, keeping this in mind. Here are 6 important things to think about if you’re planning a wedding for 2021 (and beyond).

  1. Look elsewhere for your best view of the future. We know C19 will ease with restrictions set in place as they are in Melbourne. A great way to get an idea on how that looks for weddings is to see what states like WA, SA and Qld are doing for a look into the future of events. Places like NSW still aren’t allowing dance floors, so if you’re being married in the next 6 months that may be one of your compromises. If you’re having your wedding in Victoria, you may have to tell your guests to wear masks, this is a very real possibility based on the latest news from the government about containment moving forward.

  2. Your venue may only have weekdays available. Given venues are crunching most of the weddings from this year into next on top of what they already had booked for 2021.
They may only have weekdays free rather than a Friday or Saturday in March. Weekday weddings can be awesome - everyone loves a day off to drink and be merry, and you have more of a chance to get your vendor A team because of the same reasons as above.

  3. Your wedding may not look how you originally planned, but thats ok. Sometimes the ‘everything happens for a reason thing’ is true. We’d like to think positively that if this helps you convince Mum to leave her long lost cousin (that you have never met) off the guest list, thats a bonus for you too. Main thing to remember is you’re marrying your bestie, some of those smaller details you were worried about before don’t matter so much now.

  4. Things may change, prepare yourselves for that. Having a discussion together about a possible other date to have in mind, or what you would both be happy with if you needed to postpone is important. It sets your mind to be able to cope better if this scenario happens - you’ll be more mentally prepared for it and if it doesn’t happen then awesome, stick to plan A and you’re set.

  5. Your numbers may be affected. You may have to bring your guest list down, AND importantly you may need to consider staff numbers and your crew numbers into your final guests count. I would chat to your venue about clarification on this. Good to keep in mind for a wedding in the next 6 months or longer.

  6. Your vendor team will try their absolute best to bring you the best scenario. If this means some changes with vendors, chat through it with them, understand they are doing their best for you, they have hurt badly during this mess too. If you are feeling email isn’t working, schedule a call with them to work through it.
Most good vendors have their own plan B (and C and D) that they can offer to you if the original plan has to change. The main thing to remember is that weddings are so emotional. Everyone is human and have had their own personal struggle through this, so kindness and patience on all angles is key to getting a great plan together and remaining stress free.

Like we said above, these are just some things to consider. The unknown is the hard part of this scenario. If you have booked your venue take their lead, and lean on your vendor team for support through this, or shoot us a message anytime as we can help you through.

Stay safe, Team VL xx
